How to write a Irish CV

How to write a CV for jobs in Ireland: two pages, no photo, Irish and British spelling, work permit or Stamp status, and the job boards Irish employers use.

IEIrelandCV guide · 2026

The short answer

An Irish CV is usually two pages, reverse-chronological, with a short profile at the top. Don't include a photo, date of birth or marital status. Use Irish/British English spelling, and if you're not an Irish or EEA citizen, state your work permit or Stamp status clearly.

Equality law and personal details

Ireland's Employment Equality Acts prohibit discrimination on nine grounds, including age, gender, family status and religion. As in the UK, Irish employers prefer CVs without a photo, age or family information.

Your right to work

Recruiters in Ireland see many international applicants, so make your status obvious. Irish, UK, EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can simply write "EU citizen" or "Full right to work in Ireland". Non-EEA candidates should state their Stamp or permit type. If you would need a Critical Skills or General Employment Permit, check whether the role is on the eligible occupations list and say so.

Tone and content

Irish CVs read much like UK CVs: direct, achievement-led and modest in tone. Multinational employers in Dublin and Cork (technology, pharma, finance and aviation leasing) expect the same results-focused style as the US or UK, with numbers wherever you can give them.

FAQ

Ireland CV questions

Very little. Both are two pages, without a photo or date of birth. The main differences are local qualifications (such as the Leaving Certificate) and stating your Stamp or work permit status if you're not an EEA citizen.

Only if you're a recent school leaver or graduate. Experienced professionals can leave them out or reduce them to one line.

It's expected for many roles and almost always for public-sector posts. Every PenworthCV package includes one.
