How to write a UAE CV

How to write a CV for jobs in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the UAE in 2026: two pages, professional photo, nationality and visa status, notice period and Gulf job boards.

AEUnited Arab EmiratesCV guide · 2026

The short answer

A UAE CV is usually two pages (up to three for senior roles), reverse-chronological and achievement-focused. Unlike the UK or US, it's normal to include a professional photo, your nationality, current visa status and location, notice period and languages. Regional experience and the scale of what you managed carry a lot of weight.

Why Gulf CVs include personal details

Employers in the UAE hire from across the world, and visa sponsorship, location and notice periods affect how quickly someone can start. That's why nationality, visa status and availability are standard on a UAE CV. A professional headshot is common, though no longer essential at every company.

Show scale and region

UAE recruiters look for regional experience (GCC or MENA), the size of budgets, teams and projects you handled, and the reputation of past employers. Name your markets clearly: "Led sales across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman" says more than "regional sales".

Emiratisation

Private-sector companies above a certain size have Emiratisation targets, so some roles are reserved for or prioritised for UAE nationals. If you're an Emirati candidate, make it visible on your CV.

Photo do's and don'ts

If you include a photo, use a plain background, business dress and a neutral expression. Keep it small and in the header. A poor photo does more harm than none.

FAQ

United Arab Emirates CV questions

It's common and accepted, but optional. If you include one, use a professional headshot.

Yes. Employers want to know whether you're already in the UAE, on a residence visa, on a visit visa or would need full sponsorship.

You can, but you'll do better adapting it: add nationality, visa status, location and notice period, and show regional experience. Your back-up CV can be your Gulf version.
