How to Write CV Bullet Points That Prove Results

A simple three-part formula, before-and-after examples, and the questions that uncover numbers you didn't know you had.

Hiring managers don't doubt that you had responsibilities. They want to know whether you were good at them. The fastest way to show that is a bullet that ends with a result.

The formula

Strong verb + what you did + what changed, with a number

"Responsible for supplier management" becomes "Renegotiated 14 supplier contracts, cutting annual spend by $310,000 without service loss."

Before and after

  • Before: Handled customer complaints.
After: Resolved 40+ escalated complaints a week and lifted CSAT from 78% to 90% in two quarters.
  • Before: Worked on the new website.
After: Led content migration for a 600-page website relaunch delivered two weeks early, increasing enquiries by 27%.
  • Before: Trained new staff.
After: Built a two-week onboarding programme that cut time-to-competence for new hires from 3 months to 6 weeks.

Where to find your numbers

  • Scale: how many people, clients, sites, products, countries or transactions?
  • Money: revenue won, costs cut, budgets managed, losses avoided.
  • Time: what got faster, and by how much?
  • Quality: error rates, scores, audits, complaints, safety records.
  • Rank: against target, against peers, against last year.

If you can't share exact figures, use percentages, ranges or rankings. An honest estimate you can explain in an interview is fine; an invented figure is not.

Verbs that show ownership

Led, built, launched, negotiated, reduced, redesigned, won, delivered, rescued, scaled. Save "assisted" and "supported" for when they're genuinely accurate, and say what the support achieved.

How many bullets?

Three to six for recent roles, fewer for older ones. Put the most impressive result first. A reader should be able to skim each role in ten seconds and remember one thing you did.
